New Jersey Gets Smart…and Interactive!
Antibiotic Resistance has been identified by the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC) as one of the key microbial threats to health
in the U.S.In response to this, the CDC has developed a national awareness
campaign entitled "Get Smart: Know When Antibiotics Work" to bring
awareness and understanding of the global problem of antibiotic resistance,
as well as the consequences of inappropriate antibiotic use.
As part of this initiative, the UMDNJ Center for Continuing and Outreach
Education (CCOE) and New Jersey Medical School Department of Preventive
Medicine and Community Health have developeda new interactive program
entitled, "Get Smart New Jersey About Antibiotic Resistance." This online
CME activity was developed in collaboration with the New Jersey Department
of Health and Senior Services and is intended for primary care clinician
audiences.
The program's goal is to raise awareness, and minimize the problem of
antibiotic-resistant bacteria in New Jersey by providing education on the
appropriate use of antibiotics in patient diagnosis and treatment. This CME
program includes adult and pediatric versions with interactive case
scenarios that illustrate common issues associated with treating
respiratory infections. The Activity is organized into two separate
modules: one for Adult Cases, and one for Pediatric Cases. There is no
charge, and clinicians are invited to take one or both modules –
credit will be awarded for successful completion of each program
individually.
